Entry 118: S.H.I.E.L.D. IS BACK!

On JUNE 1 S.H.I.E.L.D. Vol 2 #1 hits stands!

We did the first 6 issues, which are now collected into the S.H.I.E.L.D. Architects of Forever hard cover, which has actually spent a few weeks on the New York Times best selling graphic novels list! Which I'm really excited about. Everyone reading this blog has bought it right? Please check it out.

So here we are starting another 6 issue run.

Gerald Parel's cover for this book is kick-ass and text on this cover says it all.

"The beginning of the end"
That's right, we will be ending this story with this 6 issues. Stuff is going to happen, shit is going to go down, it will also be hitting the fan. So hang on lady, we going for a ride!

Here are some preview pages

With this 6 issues we no longer have Christina Strain on colors. She did a really great job on the first 6 issues of this series and I'm sad that she's no longer doing it. I believe she's taking time off from coloring comics. I think she mentioned doing a web comic. I'm not sure. Once I know more I'll let you know, but I wish her the best of luck.

I can't tell you how important good colors are to a comic. A colorist can make or break a whole comic. Having my work colored by a new coloristis is a scary thing for me. There were a lot of e-mails back and forth between me and Nick, the Shield editor, about colorists and who would be right on the book, and I think we found just the right person for the job. Sonia Oback. She's so good and she's doing a fantastic job.

Here's another preview shot, just for you guys.

And here is the black and white version of my cover, followed by my sketch.

  1. Michelangelo AND Da Vinci?! Holy Homoerotic Crossovers, Bat-Daddy! :)
Awesome art as usual, dude. Love your ability to draw complex and involving battle scenes...

  2. Yeah, only i think Da Vinci was a little out of Michelagelo's league. Plus they didn't really like each other, if I'm not mistaken.

  3. More of a friendly rivalvry, if anything. Kind of like Mozart and Salieri (not the film versions :)

  4. Loved the first issue. You and Hickman haven't missed a beat. Last I heard Christina was eventually going to do a creator owned project with Adrian Alphona. She was a perfect fit for the book, but Sonia is doing a fine job. The supplemental art in the back by Kevin Mellon was a nice treat too.

  5. I read the blog through rss, so I'm sometimes a bit behind, but your work is stunning, as always! I love this series & am very much hoping, once this arc is finished, Marvel produces a nice one volume tome in either SC or HC. I'd snatch that baby up no questions asked!
    Thanks for the beauty!
