Entry 154: The Adventures of Lucy and Friends

Last week was my daughter's birthday. She's now 3 years old! And, guys, she's really cool. I really like her, even when she's being a little punk. I'm like "Yes. Keep that defiance." I'm really proud of her.

A few weeks ago I decided, instead of reading a story before bed, Lucy and I would make one up. We'd draw a little comic. She'd tell me what happens in the story and I'd draw it. I wasn't sure how well it would go. She is(was) only 2 years old after all. I wasn't sure I'd get a single page done. I found pretty quickly that we weren't going to get anything done if I didn't let her draw some of it. So I let her draw some of it, which is mostly just scribbling. The collaboration has gone much better than I had expected. I'm really liking this comic, so much so that I decided to start coloring it and make it a real thing.

Entry 107: Super Powered Lucy/ Mad Men

Hello again! and welcome to another Live Web-log by me, Dustin Weaver.
As you can see, Lucy has begun to manifest her mutant X-gene powers. Normally they don't kick in till puberty, but she's an exceptional kid. The doctor says it's perfectly normal in some cosmic energy manipulating omega-level mutants. That's right "cosmic energy." All I can do is make my eyes glow, which only looks cool. But guess what, when they're lit up, I can't see. Completely sightless!

Moving on.
This week on the Periscope Tumblr we are doing Mad Men pieces. No, not pictures of crazy and or angry guys. Pictures related to the popular TV show set in the early 60's, Mad Men.

I must say that I had never seen the show when I saw that we were going to be doing a week on it and I defiantly thought to myself, "Screw that!" "I don't watch that show and everyone who does must be stupid." But then I thought, "Wait. not everyone who watches that show could be stupid. In fact, logic dictates, that there is likely some percentage of that shows viewers who are smart. That means that I could watch it too and I don't have to feel like I'm stupid for doing so."  So I'm giving it a try. I'm a little more than halfway through the first season and I like it.

Here's my piece
This show makes me want to smoke.

Check out the other Mad Men pieces at the Periscope Studio Tumblr.... if you dare.
...It's not scary. I know people say "if you dare" when it's something scary. If I scared you away from doing it, I apologize. Seriously, nothing bad is going to happen when you click on that link. It's not some kind of thing like in the movie The Ring where you'll get a message telling you that your going to die in seven days. It's nothing like that. It's just pictures inspired by the show Mad Men. So click on the link. It's fine.

Once again, it's time for the corner that is taking the world by storm! The corner that is making everyone say, "I didn't know a corner could be so good." Lucy's Poetry Corner!!!!!!!

In closing, I would like to share with you a revelation I had the other day: Justin Bieber is the bizzaro Dustin Weaver... Think about it.

Entry 92: S.H.I.E.L.D. #2 second print

A few months ago I used a pathetic picture of my baby daughter to guilt trip everyone into buying S.H.I.E.L.D. #1.

It was a joke. She's doing fine. She's great! She is.. Partying as if it were her birthday. Sipping Bacardi as if it were her birthday. And you know what, it isn't her birthday. Yeah, she doesn't give a hoot.
Just look at this picture.
Happy Baby-

Anyway, what I'm getting at is that issue 2 has sold out and is going to a second print. While this is really great news, I just wish I could believe it was for right reasons. Not to save my baby's life, but because people actually like the comic. Oh and she isn't sipping Bacardi like it's her birthday, that was another joke.

Here is the cover for the reprint.

Entry 87: Please Buy S.H.I.E.L.D. #1

I didn't want to have to do this but... Her name is Lucy Fitzgerald Weaver, she's 7 months, and, other than a nasty headbutt and an ability to latch onto hair and not let go, she is completely helpless. She's a baby who's only mistake is being born the daughter of a comic book artist. She's lost in an unforgiving world where one day is the same as the next. I know you've thought of getting one of her father's comics, put it on a nice to-do list of things to do that are nice, but somehow you never got around to it, even though the comic shop is right there. Maybe you forgot because you were picking your nose, maybe you're stupid, but Lucy doesn't have till the 12th of never or even the 23rd of soon. No, she has only to the first of now. When you buy S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 this Wednesday you'll know she has a school to go to. You'll know she has a doctor to see so she wont DIE like thousands of children did last night. Now I've got your attention. Do something wonderful, buy S.H.I.E.L.D. #1. It's the best thing that can happen to 3 dollars, 3 quarters, 2 dimes, and 4 pinnies. God knows they don't wan to be in your wallet against your ASS. Ever think about that.

Seriously, thanks to anyone who picks up anything that I do. I feel like sometimes I joke or try to play it cool when I've got something coming out, but honestly, it's amazing to me that anyone buys comics that I drew. I'm really grateful that I get to do this for a job.

Entry 59: On A Personal Note

This journal is about my professional career in comics. I don't do a lot of talking about my personal life unless I think it pertains to my career. And well, I've got some personal news that I believe will have an impact on my career. I'm going to be a dad! That's right! I'm very excited. My fiancee, Lauren, is pregnant and it's pretty freaking awesome.

I'd go on about it but I think I should just direct you to Lauren's Live Journal page. She's just posted about our baby and I encourage you to click over and read her post. It's a great post, a much better post than I could write. Here's the link. Lauren's LJ

Also, if you're checking out her journal be sure to scroll down and check out her past entries. She's selling a damn good recreation of the Raptor shirt the Enid wears in the Ghost World movie. In my opinion, it's a must have for fans of that movie.
