Entry 88: S.H.I.E.L.D. 2nd printing

So apparently my last post really worked! People DID buy S.H.I.E.L.D. #1. It sold out!... Now I feel a little guilty about using my daughter to get sympathy sails. I didn't actually think it would work. You guys should know that Lucy is fine. She's not hungry or unable to see a doctor and we're actually considering home schooling. So, sorry if you went out and bought the comic really fearing for the life of my baby. I didn't know you cared so much.

What I've posted above is the cover for the 2nd print of issue #1. It will be a wrap-around cover. Pretty sweet! I'm excited. The book is doing well and everyone seems to like it. It sold out really fast. I think if you look through my posts you can see that I've been pretty uncertain about it. I mean, I thought it was cool but I wasn't sure if everyone ells would like it. I was fully preparing myself for it to totally bomb and to take a beating from reviewers and fans. Part of me is still waiting for the other shoe to drop. There's still issue 2 and 3 and so on. People could turn on me at any moment. But as things are right now, I actually feel good about myself.

Here's the marvel announcement of it selling out-

Marvel is pleased to announce that S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 has sold out at Diamond (though copies may still be available at the retail level) and will return with S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 Second Printing Variant! Eisner Award nominee Jonathan Hickman teams with red-hot artist Dustin Weaver on the book that peeks behind the curtain and unveils secrets of the Marvel Universe! With the craziest inventions from history’s greatest minds, S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 Second Printing Variant features jaw dropping interior art from Dustin Weaver on a new cover!

Critics are raving about S.H.I.E.L.D.!

“This is a top-notch debut, and I wish all superhero comics were this good. Highly recommended.”
-Greg McElhatton, ComicBookResources.com

“With gorgeous art and near-lyrical writing that cuts to the secret heart of the Marvel Universe, this is an opening issue that really does deserve all the hype.”
-The Best Shots Team, Newsarama.com

“…after only one issue I'm already comfortable calling S.H.I.E.L.D. the boldest, most creative and exciting Marvel comic on the stands.” – Dan Phillips, IGN.com

So thanks to everyone who bought the issue. And thanks to everyone who went online somewhere and posted something positive about it. I read a lot of those comments. I can't help but check out message boards. It has hurt me in the past, but I just got's to know.

I'm going to keep doing my best and this is just the beginning.
Thanks!

  3. Believe me, I NEVER had any doubts that S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 would sell. It certainly helped to pitch it to people too. Yes, it's sold out here in the Philippines.
Don't worry about asking for sympathy. My goodness, you have a baby, a family. It's only natural that you'll be worried about all that financial stuff.
Marvel posted previews of #2. If Night Machine creeped me out, even more so that bearded guy with the heiroglyphic tattoos on his arms. *shudder*
I'll always be here supporting you! *waves*

  5. I think a lot of us are wondering if any of the pages from this series will be for sale anytime soon.
And, hey, speaking of the artwork, I was able to snag a copy of the b&w variant issue - killer cover of Da Vinci in his workshop - and lemme tell ya, the b&w only enhances the mad detail you put into this issue.
Well done, man. Can't wait to see what's next.
