Entry 270: Infinity Gauntlet #1

So, it's been a couple weeks now since Infinity Gauntlet #1 came out and I'm only just now getting around to posting about it. I hope you all picked it up.

I've been really happy with the reaction to it. Generally all of the feedback and reviews I've seen have been positive. People seems to like it, which is a huge relief to me. I really didn't know what to expect. I guess I was afraid that for being the first issue of a Marvel comic called Infinity Gauntlet, it's not what you would expect and maybe not what you want.

I also think that it's an unusual comic. It's dominated by an extended action chase scene. This chase scene was inspired by action movies more than any comics and really I almost never see these kinds of scenes in comics, not played out to this degree anyway. I was thinking a lot about Spielberg, James Cameron, and Peter Jackson while I did this scene. I'm digressing a little. I'll talk more about the creative process on this comic some other time. My point is that I think it's an unusual comic.

It's also unusual in it's density. There are 146 panels in this issue, which is high for a mainstream comic. There are no splash pages.

And, for a Marvel comic, especially one with this name, it's got very little reference to any Marvel Universe continuity, characters, and ideas. In this way it's maybe the opposite to the original Infinity Gauntlet.

So, because of these reasons, I thought people were possibly not going to like this comic... But I knew I would.

Here is a sequence from the issue. Please go pick it up. I worked hard to make a comic worth buying.

    1. I'll tell it to you honestly. I don't know this for sure, but I suspect that Jonathan hasn't had the time to write the final script for the last issue. All the art is drawn but when I drew it I was working from an outline. And I think Marvel doesn't want to say for sure when the issues are coming out until the issues are definitely definitely done... Colors on the last issue might also still be in production. At this point, for everyone involved, Shield is a side project.

Like I said, I'm not totally sure. Lately I've been mostly focussed on getting Infinity Gauntlet done and I haven't been talking to everyone about Shield. I saw, that recently Jonathan publicly said it was still a go for September. Sooo... Who knows. Maybe he's right, or maybe it'll be November.

      Thanks for asking!
