Looking through my sketchbooks I realize that there are fewer and fewer drawings done for fun and more and more drawings that are for work. It's making my sketchbooks less interesting. Less fun. So I thought I'd have a little fun.
I've been reading a lot of Astro Boy lately. I've got Astro on the brain right now and once I got it in my head that I wanted to draw him it became an itch that I had to scratch.
Awesome art! I grew up on the original cartoon when I was a kid. Butt-cannon!!
ReplyDeleteI've only seen a few of the original shows when they were showing them on Adult Swim.
ReplyDeleteI've had a stack of the books for a long time but I'm only just now getting into them. It took reading "the Greatest Robot on Earth" story to really pull me into the Astro world. It's also the story that inspired the image above.
The only thing I didn't like about the original series was Astro's blase attitude towards killing animals- in one episode, he kills a monstrous, 20 foot long stringray- solely because it's a stingray. It hadn't even flattened Tokyo or anything!
ReplyDeleteI was always more into KIMBA THE WHITE LION than ASTRO...
Wow, I haven't seen Astro do anything like that in the comics so far.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read Kimba. I'd have to say that I'm a pretty huge Tezuka fan but there is still so much that I haven't read. It's kind of exciting to think of all the great work I will someday get to experience.
I never read the Astro or Kimba mangas, just saw the tv shows...
ReplyDeleteI see.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you haven't read any Tezuka I can't recommend his work enough. Phoenix is one of my top 2 favorite series of all time. I want to do a post about it but I wouldn't know where to begin and it would end up being a monster of a post.
Also good are Ode to Kirihito and MW. So good!
Neat. Will check it out...
