First entry: a self portrait
I draw comic books and I get paid for it. It's a pretty sweet deal. I first decided that I wanted to be a comic book artist at the age of 13, and I intended to break in to the comic book industry at the age of 14. I didn't quite make that goal. In fact, it would take me to the age of 24 to finally start getting work and then a few more years to actually be able to support myself at it. And here I am.
This Live Journal is a place for me to talk about my career, from trying to break into the industry, to slowly getting paying gigs, and my career as it happens. Oh and eventually to my spectacular failure that leaves me homeless, penniless, and empty. But, primarily it will be a place for me to post my art work. I'll be posting current stuff I'm working on and really really old stuff too, stuff from my sketch books and published stuff as well.
I'm going to try to post in this Journal very regularly starting September 12 (in a week). I've had an msn group for several years, and a Myspace page for about a year. I'm planning on shutting the msn group down in favor of this Journal. I'm just not really digging the msn group set up any more and I'm ready for a change. Myspace is alright, feel free to visit my myspace page, but I think I'm finally ready for the Live journal/blog format.
I decided to do a self portrait for my Live Journal avatar. I don't really like most self portraits, particularly photo realistic self portraits. I don't ever draw self portraits. The last time I did a self portrait was about 5 years ago and it, like this one, was done very quickly. (Maybe I'll post that one sometime) It just seems that self portraits especially need to communicate more than just what a photo can tell you... I'm not sure if I've accomplished that with this piece, but I'm not perfect and I just thought I'd give it a shot.

I was sent over here by DJ Bryant, and I eagerly await some Weaver LJ brilliance. LET IT LOOSE!
ReplyDelete(gets some popcorn)
Hello Dustin!
ReplyDeleteIts surprising you didnt choose Blogger, everyone and their grandmother has gone there over LJ despite the fact that, in my opinion, LJ has superior blogging tools.
ReplyDeleteNice Face
ReplyDeleteVelcum to zee life zhurnul, Meester Veever.
Thanks for the Welcome guys and gal. Exciter, you're Travel Foreman right. You're good, man. I don't know much about LJ or Blogger. I just went with LJ because my buddy DJ has been using it for the last couple months and it seemed pretty cool. Check out his LJ comic strip Snarr-fled. Bougieman, I'm totally going to deliver on that "LJ brilliance". Buckle up for the most exciting, most dazzling, most electrifying thrill ride ever to be live journalled. Starting TOMORROW!... Seriously, what I post isn't going to live up to that at all, but hopefully it's a little interesting.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think that self-portrait is very very good.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your livejournal, but have been an enthusiastic follower of your art via KOTOR. Would you mind if I added you to my friend's list? Oh, and your new painted covers that are upcoming and I got to peek at here look fantastic. I can't believe you managed that first one without a Wacom tablet. Wow! That's using the mouse, only? Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you do great work. Thanks for the peek into your art studio, as it were. :)
