Entry 306: S.H.I.E.L.D. Penultimate Issue

This entry is about S.H.I.E.L.D! And it's not a SHIELD Update entry or a Blast From the Past entry. This is the first time in 6 years that I am blogging about a current issue of Shield.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #5 (VOL2) IS OUT! None of us would believe it until we'd seen it with our own eyes, but it's here.

Entry 301: S.H.I.E.L.D. Update #8

The artwork for the last two issues of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been done since October 2014. Three and a half years ago.

The last issue to be published of S.H.I.E.L.D. was published February 2012. Six years ago.

And the series started June 2010. That's like eight years ago!

Entry 252: S.H.IE.L.D. update #7

I last posted a S.H.I.E.L.D. Update back in January 2014. It was just an image of the title page of Jonathan Hickman's script for the final issue. At that time he was finally finding the time to return to writing Shield. It was the beginning of our progress on the final issue.

So, what has happened since then? In March I started receiving those pages of script from Jonathan and I began working on them. While doing covers for New Avengers, a  Shutter #1 variant cover, and moving to a new studio I worked on the first pages of the last Shield issue. When I was about ten pages in I got the opportunity to write and draw an issue of Edge of Spider-Verse. I knew it would be a major distraction from Shield, but I believe it was a worth while distraction. At first I did get some Shield pages done even as I worked on my Spider-verse issue. After completing Edge of Spider-Verse #3 and my pages for Avengers 35 I was finally free to finish Shield…. Almost. There was one last distraction. I'll post about that soon.  I'll also point out that during all of this I've done a lot of Amnia Cycle pages. Anyway, to make a long story short-- I've been chipping away at this final issue of Shield for seven months and I'm excited to tell you that

It IS DONE!
S.H.I.E.L.D. IS ALL DRAWN

I drew the last panels just the day before yesterday. I'm not totally out of the woods yet. I'll still be communicating with Sonia Oback about colors and being involved in whatever way I can to make the final product as good as it can be. It isn't over till it's over. So it doesn't quite feel real yet.

Speaking of Sonia Oback on colors-- here is a sequence of panels from the second to last issue with Sonia's colors.

Neat! Huh?

The image at the top of this entry is a panel from the final issue.  Here is another.

And, what the hell, here is a photo of a panel also from the final issue.

So there you have it. And you thought it was never going to happen. How dare you doubt me.

This is not my last S.H.I.E.L.D. update entry. I'll be back to show you how things progress with the colors and to let you know about a release schedule.

As always, thanks to everyone who has been waiting patiently for this. I look forward to it all being out for you guys to see.

Till next time.

Entry 176: S.H.I.E.L.D. Update #5

As of a week ago S.H.I.E.L.D. Volume 2 #5 is all done. It was almost all done before all the Avengers stuff started. I only had 3 pages to tighten up and ink. But now it's all done...

Entry 156: S.H.I.E.L.D. Update #4

Welcome to another S.H.I.E.L.D. Update!

You will notice that I have dropped the "Weekly" from the "S.H.I.E.L.D. Weekly Update" I figured out pretty quickly that trying to do one of these every week was not a good idea. I just don't have enough "making of" process stuff to keep doing it every week. Also, these posts take time to put together. Time I could be using to get more Shield done. So, I'm scaling back a little. I'm only going to post an update when I can make it worth your while. So without further ado, I give you S.H.I.E.L.D. Update Part 4.

Entry 153: S.H.I.E.L.D. Update #3

I'm just doing a short update this time. I've got some longer updates planed where I'll talk more about my process, but this is just a quick simple update.

This past week I T C'ed a lot of B. (That's "took care of a lot of business." I say "T.C.B." Just something I came up with. Anyway) It was a busy week where I did a lot of little things that weren't drawing. I was only able to get pages 12 and 13 done, but, man, are they some crazy pages.

The image that I used for the header of this post is from page 13. I quickly threw some color on it for fun and to practice coloring.

Here's another panel.

Entry 152: S.H.I.E.L.D. Update #2

This past week I've been really excited about comics. I feel like I've read one great comic after another, starting with Tardi's "New York Mon Amour." Some of it I've read before in previous printings, but it was great to reread it. Then, because I love the guy so much, I read Tardi's "Adele Blanc-Sec" (Vol. 2). This series gets better and better. I've never read any of the Adele stuff before the Fantagraphic's reprints. I'm really looking forward to Volume 3. Then I read Tezuka's "Black Jack" (Vol. 2). I'm always happy when I read Tezuka. Then, what really put me over the top, I finally read Chest Brown's recently reprinted in a great hard cover edition "Ed The Happy Clown". Holy Shit! I liked that! That goes right on my list of favorite comics ever. I'm now reading  Kentaro Miura's "Berserk" (Vol. 1) and it's a lot of fun. Next up is Dash Shaw's "Bottomless Belly Button." I loved Dash Shaw's "Body World", so my hopes are high.

Enough of all that. This is neither the time nor the place. This is the WEEKLY S.H.I.E.L.D. UPDATE! Not the WHAT COMICS IS DUSTIN READING UPDATE. So stop stalling, Dustin, and make with the S.H.I.E.L.D. news. Come on, spit it out, dummy.

Entry 151: S.H.I.E.L.D. Update #1

It's been 7 months since S.H.I.E.L.D. volume 2 #4 came out! And there is still no sign of any S.H.I.E.L.D. number 5...

UNTIL NOW!

Dustin Weaver here, and I'm trying something new. I'm going to try to do a weekly S.H.I.E.L.D. update, where I tell you exactly where we are on finishing issues 5 and 6 of SHIELD volume 2 and also give you a behind-the-scenes look at how I make comics, which will be totally boring, but I'll act like it's really exciting. Okay? So let's not waste too much time. You ready?
